June 1, 2010 is the FINAL EXTENDED deadline for physicians to comply with the FTC's new Red Flag Regulations.

If you bill insurance carriers or balance bill patients for copayments or patient deductibles, then the FTC's Red Flag regulations apply to YOU!

 

The Red Flag Regulations require that establish a written Identity Theft Prevention Program that outlines reasonable policies and procedures for detection, prevention and mitigation of identity theft.  

The FTC has stated that all Identity Theft Prevention Programs must contain:

• Policies and procedures to perform an internal risk assessment/detection of any "red flags" of identity theft

• Development of prevention and responses to the red flags
