Mr. Bernick has been consulting with private practice physicians since 1991 on a wide array of legal and consulting issues.  His legal expertise includes compliance, fraud and abuse, Stark, fee splitting, HIPAA, Medicare reimbursement issues, taxation, and employment law.  He also spends substantial time structuring, planning, and drafting various physician contract arrangements including medical practice buy-ins and pay-outs, practice sales, physician employment and independent contractor agreements. 

Dan began his legal practice after graduating with a joint law and master in business administration degrees, from the University of Pennsylvania and The Wharton School of Business.  He worked as a tax attorney at Drinker Biddle and Reath in Philadelphia before joining The Health Care Group in 1991.  Dan is admitted to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and is a member of The American Health Lawyers' Association, Pennsylvania Bar, and Philadelphia Bar Associations.

Dan is a frequent speaker in various national physician forums.  His prior presentations include the Medical Group Management Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators, American College of Rheumatology, and Professional Association of Health Care Office Managers.

Dan writes frequently for various physician business publications.  In addition to The Health Care Group’s On Managing and Forecast newsletters, he writes regularly for Physicians News Digest, and has published articles in American Medical News, Group Practice Journal, Journal of Medical Practice Management, Health Care Financial Management, Administrative Eyecare, AAOS Bulletin, Family Practice Management, and Physician Practice Options. 

Dan is an enthusiastic fly fisher man, skier, and reader of history and other non-fiction.  He is married with three children in suburban Philadelphia.
